6 Things to do in Auckland During Winter
Auckland is, without a doubt, a summer city. The beaches are packed, barbecues are sizzling, road trips are frequent, and jandals (the Kiwi word for flip-flops) are our uniform.
As the days get shorter, the chill creeps in and the work piles up, I am still on the lookout for new ways to explore this beautiful city.
Stuck for ideas to get you out of your pajamas and out of the house? Here are some of the things that I've been doing in Auckland this winter:
** A quick disclaimer, I am currently sitting in bed in my pajamas.
But here we go:
1. COSY UP AT A CAFE
Coffee is pretty much a year-round ritual in
Auckland, but it is all the more comforting in winter. There is something about sitting in a cafe with a blanket, a hearty breakfast and good company that warms the soul.
2. VISIT THE WINTERGARDENS
Tucked away in the Auckland Domain (just out of the CBD), the Wintergardens showcase unique and exotic plants. The Victorian-style greenhouse is a great way to get a little bit of nature in the winter, and the inside is warm too!
4. GO FOR A WINTER WALK
Without the sweat-inducing heat, the cooler months are a great time to put on your walking shoes and hit some of the fabulous tracks that Auckland has to offer. There are fabulous tracks all over Auckland but my favourites are the ones in the Waitakere Ranges.
5. EAT BURGERS TO YOUR HEART'S CONTENT
It's freezing cold. Last summer is but a distant memory and next summer is too far away to care about. To celebrate the furthest point of the year from bikini season, why not have a burger? or two? or three? There are so many good burger places around Auckland that you simply have to try out. How else are you meant to find out if Burger Burger is better than Better Burger?
6. SNAP A SUNRISE OR A SUNSET
With later sunrises and earlier sunsets, we can all get that perfect golden-hued gram!
